Closet Organization

Shirts hanging in a closet

There are many different types of closets; hallway closet, linen closet, bathroom closet, pantry, bedroom closet, and master bedroom closet. No matter what kind of closet you have, the process is the same; remove everything from the closet and sort into 4 piles (Keep, Trash, Donate, or Sell). The less stuff you have, the easier it will be to organize, and you will leave room for additional items in the future. For a closet organizer, I can tell you that custom shelving is a game changer. Also using proper shelving, drawers, hanging devices, and storage containers makes all the difference.

Closet Organization Ideas

  • Use Clothing Dividers so that you can see clearly what you have and where everything is located.

  • You can use a hidden hamper that is disguised as a drawer. This will keep your floors clean and is better in appearance and scent then an open laundry basket.

  • Utilize shower rings to hang scarfs. This will keep your scarfs from becoming wrinkled or damaged.

  • Use vertical storage space to the best of your ability. Hooks are good for bags, belts, hats, and jewelry.

  • Reusable labels for your bins make it easy to spot what you’re looking for.

  • Invest in shoe racks, cubbies, or drawers to store your footwear organized and off the floor.

  • Create a sunglass hanging area with a picture frame and some wire acting like a clothesline.

  • Construct drawer organizers out of colored folders or colored construction paper, so that you can easily spot jewelry, socks, and accessories.

  • Soda can tabs are a great way to create double hanging space for clothes that are similar.

  • Put handbags, clutches, and purses on display with clear, plastic wall holders and clear, plastic dividers on shelves.

  • Curtains can come in handy if you want to quickly cover a closet mess.

  • Use every nook and cranny with bins, smaller bins, hooks, and extra shelves.

  • Since kids don’t have a ton of clothes you can store toys, accessories, and arts and crafts in their closets.

  • If you are having trouble deciding whether to keep or let go of clothing, ask yourself if the piece of clothing “Sparks Joy”. If it doesn’t then you can pass it on to the next person.

  • Organize clothing by activities, such as “Work, Weekends, and Workout”

  • If you have mismatched hangers you can spray paint them, so that your closet is bright, beautiful and cohesive.

  • Use a vertical, slide in storage, drawer to hang ties and belts.

  • Prevent shirts from slipping off hangers by wrapping them with pipe cleaners.

  • Get Creative!!!
